How do you stay true to yourself in the system?

      in REAL LAW TALK

Hey all! Code-switching is a means of professional survival for many us, especially with many of us battling imposter syndrome (check out our blog post on this subject!) I’m guilty of it myself, but to be honest its exhausting and draining. I do feel lucky that I’m currently working in house at a studio, so I’m surrounded by a diverse group of co-workers and don’t feel the need to do it as often. But with so little a percentage of POC’s becoming attorney’s, I am probably not alone on feeling the need to code-switch. When we don’t see many other POCs in the profession we doubt that our authentic self is enough to be in the room (imposter syndrome at its finest). Do you code-switch - what have been your experiences? Do you think it’s necessary for survival or is it too detrimental to our mental?
